Unit Five addresses the subject of Computer Applications. Having now studied the hardware components of computers, and the languages and techniques used for software development, we will now examine the types of programs created and their uses. The range and scope of applications are enormous, but one thing they all share is that each was developed to solve a specific problem. Because of the huge range of applications that exist, the text focuses on those seminal programs which best illustrate the problem solving nature of applications.
