Evaluation

The assignments in COMP 200 allow students to choose ONE exercise from the “Exercises” sections in each chapter of the textbook. There are 6 “Levels” in the text, and each assignment requires students to complete one activity from each chapter.

The open-ended nature of the assignments enables students to explore topics of particular interest to them, and to choose activities that are compatible with their own learning style and presentation skills.

Each activity may be completed in the form of a 1–2 page illustrated article (using MS Word or compatible program), a 2-page Web document, or a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation not exceeding 5 slides in length. You may choose the form of submission, based on the nature of the activity and the personal preference.

Submit one assignment at the end of each unit of the Study Guide (Assignment 1 should be submitted after Unit 1, and so on). Every assignment must include one activity from each textbook chapter studied in the unit. You should clearly identify the textbook chapter and exercise number at the beginning of each component of your assignment.

Marking of the assignments will be somewhat subjective, because the scope and range of the possible topics precludes the evaluation of specific content. Marking will be based on the following criteria:

  • Level of detail
  • Citation of sources
  • Length
  • Presentation and formatting
  • Illustration

Assignment 2 – choose ONE exercise each from Chapters 4 and 5

Assignment 4 – choose ONE exercise each from Chapters 9, 10, 11, and 12

Assignment 5 – choose ONE exercise each from Chapters 13, 14, 15, and 16
