In this section the evolution, characteristics, and capabilities of high-level programming languages are examined.

Section Objectives

After completing this section, you will be able to

  1. Discuss, with examples, the progression of computer languages.
  2. Describe how successive families and levels of programming language relate back to their binary roots.
  3. Define and describe procedural languages.
  4. Identify the similarities and differences of popular languages.
  5. Describe the process of software engineering.
